One of our most significant recent projects has been the design, documentation and furnishing of the 820 sq metre, two level Penthouse for 'The Hyde', a new 35 floor luxury apartment development overlooking Hyde Park Sydney.

Our success in obatining this highly sought after commission further reinforces the reputation of A+W as one of the preeminent designers of high end apartment developments in the region. This project has set a new benchmark for Penthouse living in Australia and reflects our long held belief that high end apartment design must not only be beautiful, it must function flawlessly and cater to every possible need of the end user.

The extensive rebuilding and full interior redesign of this large private home was a faithful re-interpretation of the philosophies of the early 20th century ‘Arts & Crafts’ movement but with a 21st century sensibility allowing for the flexibility and fluidity of a contemporary Australian lifestyle.

A clean, contemporary design was created in a timeless blend of the classic and modern creating above all a highly liveable, functional and elegant family home.
Extensive research ensured that the architectural detailing and materials selection were totally faithful to the original architectural framework of the home but were imbued with a 21st century aesthetic to ensure an ease of use and durability befitting contemporary living patterns. This home was shortlisted for the 2007 Australian National Interior Design Awards.

Our latest luxury development design comprises 8 large scale apartments all with full width terracing overlooking Lavender Bay and the City, the interior planning was a complex task of integrating the existing commercial building structure with the expectations of a high end apartment layout.

An elegantly restrained palette of rich veneers, subtle marble and engineered timber flooring and highly detailed bespoke joinery has been detailed throughout. All kitchens have separate sculleries and generous storage capacity and the reception areas are expansive with feature fireplaces and fabric wrapped panels. Our usual high level of detailing is employed in the luxurious bathrooms and powder rooms.

The building foyer is a contemporary mix of textures using feature walls of Japanese ceramic mosaics with mirrored panels behind stainless steel top lit mesh screens.

Due for construction in 2012, The Astonia is another excellent example of A+W’s work in high end apartment design and the skilful adaptive re-use of existing buildings around Sydney’s spectacular harbour

Enviably located in Cronulla's premium beachside position 'Bathers Beach Residences' comprises twelve luxuriously appointed appartments with a relaxed yet elegant materials palette and expansive floor plans.

At Bathers, Mondell Property Group have again commissioned A+W to create apartments with a sophisticated blend of easy care materials with all the requirements of the luxurious modern lifestyle.

The full refurbishment of this classic 1960's Bondi Beach apartment block was our first commission for Sydney developers Mondell Property Group.

With stunning sea & beach views from each of the six apartments and expansive roof terraces for the twin penthouses, a simple stylish, yet sturdy materials palette was employed throughout, and all apartments were swiftly sold.

The recent success in sales of the ‘North Residences’ in Milsons Point, is further testament to A+W’s skills in the design of apartment projects. Developed by Australand and Rebel Property Group in a adaptive reuse building designed by PTW, the full interior architecture and design of all 15 levels of apartments was an exciting project for A+W.

Our skill in tailoring the A+W trademark high end look to all the various apartment types (from the smallest Studios through to the two large luxurious Penthouses) resulted in a highly successful and stylish development.

The ‘Before and After’ pictures illustrate how A+W have transformed a dark, old fashioned yet spacious apartment in Point Piper into a light filled, stylish harbour side residence. With the deft removal of a few walls, detailed design of bespoke joinery, the careful selection of durable contemporary materials and stylish furniture, a classic modern apartment has been created.

The first stage of this large scale commission for a rural retreat in the far north of New Zealand for an American art collector was the design and construction of the Guest House and Barn.

Completely off grid, self sufficient, and solar powered, the striking contemporary design of the Guest House & Barn was paramount to A+W and our exacting client. The success of this has been in maintaining its 100% ‘green’ credentials without sacrificing any aesthetic considerations. These will be further developed and enriched in the design of the Main House which exploits a phenomenal views over rolling farm and bush land with generous gallery spaces and large indoor and outdoor entertaining facilities for our internationally based client.

Following an extensive re-build, this formerly derelict Paddington terrace house has been given a total interior and exterior refurbishment. The creation of a strong angled axis to the interior planning allowed the careful removal of small zones of floor plate to bring light and verticality to the home, imbuing it with a dramatic sense of scale.

A delicate counterpoint is established throughout this space between the natural textures of the original sandstone walls and the glossy tiled feature panels that plunge into the reflecting pond, the unfilled travertine terraces and the spare detailing of the custom designed joinery.

This large family home located on the cliff edge at Dover Heights overlooking the Pacific Ocean was in need of a major refurbishment. The full re-design and re-furnishing of all the reception rooms, bedrooms and the expansive outdoor entertaining spaces brought this stunningly home back to life.

The extensive re-design and full interior refurbishment of this large three level penthouse project is an early example of our signature classic modern aesthetic at work.

Creating a highly functional yet glamorous look out of what was a chaotic and poorly organised collection of spaces a was a brief we embraced and met head on. We re-organised all the Living spaces and reception rooms to allow for a more carefully zoned spatial hierarchy, suitable for large scale entertaining as well and intimate living and withdrawing spaces.

Extensive replanning of the back of house facilities were created to ensure a seamless flow of public/private/service interplay

Archer + Wright have established our leading reputation for this sort of project based on our keen understanding unique design issues inherent in the design of some of the most exclusive homes and penthouses in the country.

Winner of the 2007 MBA ‘Excellence in Housing’ award for restoration, the ‘Tower House’ (originally built 1895) is a key, heritage listed Mosman landmark with its distinctive sandstone tower overlooking the harbour.

Archer + Wright undertook an extensive re-build and modernisation program on the entire property, successfully negotiating a complex path through the Council approvals process, and deftly balancing the existing heritage elements with the client’s requirements for the extensive renovation of the home.

Major site works including subterranean garaging, large cellaring facilities and a lift shaft cut through the entire structure and sandstone below, the building of a swimming pool adjacent to a heritage listed boundary wall along with the complete renovation of the interiors were successfully completed, ensuring at all times that the existing building fabric was in no way compromised by the new.

Securing the commission for the total interior design package for this significant new harbour side development in Newcastle was a major achievement for Archer + Wright. Working closely with Crone Partners architects, over the subsequent years we have continued the interior design of all 250+ apartments and public areas, establishing a new bench mark for apartment living in the Hunter Region. 

In addition to our recent high end development and corporate commissions, A+W have also been preparing designs for several new private homes in the Sydney region.
